Our Story
Our cedar log chalets in Nova Scotia are in Old Barns, Colchester County, just three kilometres south of Highway 236. They are located on a portion of Lot 18, as shown on the Truro township plan dated August 12, 1788. The properties in the vicinities of Irwin Lake have provided a valuable timber resource for more than 200 years. The settlement around Irwin Lake included the New England Planters of the 1760s and also the Acadians a century before. The location is virtually pristine and unfettered--the perfect location for people to enjoy Nature’s beauty.
Irwin Lake Chalets opened for business in the summer of 2001under the ownership of Dave Loughead and Toni Kennedy. In June of 2007, the Hutchinson family became majority shareholders, and in January of 2010, assumed total management of the business. Seven years later, in January of 2017, the Hutchinson family became the sole owners of Irwin Lake Chalets. As of June 1, 2021, Irwin Lake Chalets is now owned by Dennis Whelan of Bedford, NS.
Our goal has always been that of total “customer satisfaction” offered in a tranquil, private getaway environment surrounded by Nature with only the call of the loons on the lake to break the silence. We wholeheartedly invite you and your loved ones to experience the cottage life.
